Leaving your child home alone for the first time? It might be for just a few minutes, every day after school, or during the day over winter break. Whatever the case, it’s a big milestone for you and your child. Do you know if your child is scared to be home alone? Have a talk and find out. Then make a plan to help your child feel secure and safe. Make sure your child knows these five key pieces of information: 1. His or her own full name, address and phone number. 2. Your full name, where you can be reached at all times and who to call if you can’t be reached. 3. How to call for emergency help Do you receive SSI/ SSP? If so, you may get CalFresh Food benefits Since June 1, Medi-Cal members who receive Supplemental Security Income/ Supplemental State Payment (SSI/SSP) payments may be eligible to get CalFresh Food benefits. If you qualify, there is NO CHANGE to your SSI/SSP payment. ISSUE 2, FALL 2019 Home alone: Keep kids safe on their own (911 or other emergency numbers). Also, talk about what to do and where to go in case of a fire in the home. 4. To keep all doors locked and what to do if someone calls or knocks on the door. Make a list of people who can be in the house when you are not there. 5. Where the first aid kit is kept, what is in it and how to use it. Check in with your kids often when they are home alone. Call, text or have a trusted friend or neighbor check on them for you.
