Gold Coast Health Plan | Annual Report 2018

GCHP receives managed care quality award In October, Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) was awarded the 2018 Overall Most Improved Award from the Managed Care Quality and Monitoring Division of the state Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). The award is given to the managed care plan with the most significant improvement from the prior year based on performance across all indicators for which DHCS holds plans to minimum performance levels. GCHP showed improvement in 80 percent of the quality measures it reports to the state. Among the 41 measures that GCHP reports on, the Plan had the most improvement in diabetes care, controlling blood pressure, immunizations for children and adolescents, and counseling for nutrition and physical activity. “To show improvement in so many areas is a remarkable achievement. We are proud of the efforts that our providers are making to improve the health of our members.” –Dr. Nancy Wharfield, Chief Medical Officer This past year was an exciting time for Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) as we built new partnerships throughout Ventura County and worked with those partners to tackle the issues that affect our community. In 2017, we distributed $1.5 million in grants to 16 community organizations that were addressing the social determinants of health–those economic and social conditions that play a part in someone’s health. Last year, we saw the impact that those grants had in our community. They worked to fight hunger, obesity and homelessness; they worked with people with disabilities, substance abuse issues, and diseases like diabetes and hypertension; and they helped people access health care services. We are far from solving these issues in our community, but the fact that the Plan is driving conversations about solutions is something to be proud of. The Plan continues to establish itself in Ventura County’s health care landscape and the community at large. We’re also proud that the Plan’s employees continued to be generous with their time, their knowledge and their money. In the midst of working on large projects that are transforming the way we do business, they want to make a difference. Whatever the cause–walks for disease awareness, school supplies for kids, care packages for the troops, or Christmas gifts for families in our community–GCHP’s employees answer the call to serve. It’s that spirit of giving that continues to make me proud to be at the helm of such a great organization.
