24-Hour Advice Nurse Line: 1-877-431-1700/TTY 711 4 Do you pay for your medicine? If you have Medi-Cal, you should not pay for your medicine unless you have a Share of Cost or if you have Medicare. Some examples of when you should pay are: ●If you have Medicare, but they do not pay for your medicine. Or if you have a co-pay, Medi-Cal cannot help you pay. ●If you don’t have Medicare yet but qualify for it, Medi-Cal cannot help you pay. ●If you have a Share of Cost, you must pay that amount each month before Medi-Cal can pay. If you paid for something that is not covered, you can talk to your doctor about changing it or sending a special form called a Prior Authorization (PA) to ask Medi-Cal to cover it. You may also be able to ask for your money back if the following is true: ●You bought a covered item on a date you had Medi-Cal. ●You or someone else paid for a covered item. ●Once you received your Medi-Cal card, you showed it to the pharmacy, and they did not reimburse you.
