4 24-Hour Advice Nurse Line: 1-877-431-1700/TTY 711 On January 1, 2022, the state Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) will change how your Medi-Cal pharmacy benefit is managed. It will be called Medi-Cal Rx. DHCS postponed this program implementation last year. Pharmacy services and support will be provided by Magellan Medicaid Administration, Inc. This change applies to you if you currently receive your prescriptions through Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP). For most people, nothing will change. But for some of you, your doctor will need to fill out a form to get approval when you renew your prescriptions. Your doctor may need to talk to you about changing your medications . Keep up with your cancer screenings Many people may have put off cancer screenings because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That could mean that thousands of cancers will go undetected, causing unnecessary deaths. Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) encourages women to talk to their doctors about these important screenings: ❱ 21 to 64 years of age: cervical cancer screening. ❱ 50 to 74 years of age: breast cancer screening. If you’ve postponed a screening, here are a few things you should know: 1. Delays can be dangerous. Screenings are meant to find cancer in its earliest stages, before it causes symptoms. That’s when it’s usually easier to treat. Waiting could mean that cancer gets caught at a later state when it is more advanced. 2. Your safety is a top priority. Health care offices are taking steps to keep you safe. GCHP members can earn a $25 gift card for completing a cervical cancer screening in 2021. For more information, visit goldcoasthealthplan.org . COMING SOON: Change in pharmacy services If you have both Medicare and Medi-Cal, the switch will not change your current Medicare Part D pharmacy coverage. Medi-Cal Rx may cover things Medicare does not. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacy if you have questions. Most pharmacies in the state will be part of the new system, but some will not be. If you need a new pharmacy, you can talk to your doctor about your options. You can also use the Medi-Cal Rx website to find one. You will be receiving letters in the mail from GCHP and DHCS with more information about Medi-Cal Rx.
