Winning Health | Gold Coast Health Plan | Issue 1 | Summer 2023

WINNING Compassionate care, accessible to all, for a healthy community. ISSUE 1, SUMMER 2023 Standard U.S. Postage PAID Long Beach, CA Permit No. 2041 Stay covered! Medi-Cal renews once a year unless you have a change that affects your eligibility during the year. Renewals are done by the Ventura County Human Services Agency (HSA), not by Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP). Here is how it works: ●HSA will first try to automatically fill out your renewal using information from electronic data sources. ●If you have Medi-Cal through the Social Security Administration (SSA) because you get Supplemental Security Income, you have a different process. SSA will let you know if they need any information from you. If HSA or SSA needs information from you to renew your benefits, they will send you a redetermination packet or ask for verification. ●It is important to return it by the due date. If you do not, your Medi‑Cal benefits may end. If you have moved since you enrolled, call HSA at 1-888-472-4463, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and give them your new address. If you use a TTY, call 1-800-735-2929. If you lose your Medi-Cal benefits, you will no longer be a GCHP member. If this occurs, you may reapply for Medi-Cal. But you may not have coverage for some time. Next steps: If you need help with the annual re‑enrollment, call: ●Interface Medi-Cal Program: 1-833-607-2650, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you use a TTY, call 711. ●Mixteco/Indígena Community Organizing Project (MICOP): 1-805-215-0730, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. If you use a TTY, call 711. Medi-Cal updates Medi-Cal beneficiaries: It is vital to reply to the county when they ask you to update your information. This includes renewal packets. Doing so ensures that the county has the most up-todate information to renew your coverage. It also helps to see if you qualify for no-cost or lower-cost coverage. Call the Human Services Agency at 1-888-472-4463, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you use a TTY, call 1-800-735-2929.

Medication tips for travel Gold Coast Health Plan’s pharmacist, Lily Yip, has helpful tips about how to travel with your medication. Use these tips as you get ready for your next trip. It is our wish that you stay healthy and safe as you travel. QIf traveling by airplane, do I need to bring a doctor’s letter explaining why I am bringing my medications? AIf they are in the original containers, it should be OK. If they are not in the original containers and you are traveling internationally, you should have a doctor’s note explaining why you need to bring these medications and supplies. If you have questions, call 1-855-787-2227. QHow do I store my medications, like insulin, which need refrigeration? AUse a cooler bag and gel pack to keep the medications cool. Do not put them on ice. Be ready to take them out for the screening process at the airport if you are flying. QHow can I make sure I have enough medications for my trip? ACall your pharmacy at least one week before your trip to make sure you have enough. If not, the pharmacy and your doctor may need to call Medi-Cal Rx for approval for an early refill. QWhat do I do if I lose my medication? AThe pharmacy will call Medi-Cal Rx for approval to give you an early refill for lost, stolen, or damaged medications. QHow do I get a prescription filled if I am out of state? AThe pharmacy will need to call the Medi-Cal Rx Customer Service Center at 1-800-977-2273 for approval.
