Gold Coast Health Plan | Looking Back On 2019

Empowerment through dance To give low-income children an opportunity to learn the art of break dancing, Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) partnered with Hip-Hop Help, an Oxnard- based organization committed to empowering children through the art of dance. The youth program is designed to promote self-confidence, teamwork and personal development. GCHP sponsored the program’s annual showcase as part of the Plan’s diversity and inclusion efforts. Gold Coast Health Plan employees raised nearly $16,000 to raise awareness about heart disease and breast cancer, to provide school supplies for kids, and to feed Ventura County families on Thanksgiving. For Christmas, employees adopted seven families from Oxnard, making the holidays a little brighter for babies, toddlers, preteens, teenagers and their parents. Employees giving back Mentoring next- generation nurses In 2019, Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) and California State University, Channel Islands created a partnership to teach nursing students about Medi‑Cal managed care and the role of nursing in promoting evidence-based care and community collaboration. During the spring semester, each student was assigned to a GCHP nurse and worked on clinical projects about the scope of practice in care management, increasing the productivity of clinical assistants and improving childhood immunizations. For the first time, Gold Coast Health Plan participated in Oxnard’s Fiestas Patrias parade to celebrate Mexican Independence Day with the community. Celebrating with the community We are excited about exposing the next generation of health care providers to the importance of the work that we’re doing here. We hope that this will one day be a pipeline for people to come and work at Gold Coast Health Plan.” – Dr. Nancy Wharfield, chief medical officer of Gold Coast Health Plan, speaking of the partnership with California State University, Channel Islands 2019 Annual Report | 7
